2025 Summer Fellowships
We are seeking two Summer Fellows to support our advocacy initiatives. Fellows will work on impactful projects that amplify our mission, from mapping deforestation to crafting compelling visual content for campaigns. The Summer Fellowship is a three-month, paid opportunity designed for students and recent grads passionate about sustainability, storytelling, and technology. Fellows will work closely with Coffee Watch’s small team on specific projects aligned with their skill sets, contributing to meaningful change in the coffee industry.
Duration: June-August
Remuneration: $2400 per month
Focus Areas
Fellows will take on projects in one or more of the following focus areas:
1. Communications, Design, Film, & Visual Storytelling
- Write compelling content for website, blog posts, and reports.
- Support media outreach, including drafting press releases, & partnership development.
- Design infographics, reports, presentations, campaign visuals, social media graphics and other visual assets.
- Produce and edit short videos, animations, or visual content for advocacy campaigns.
- Compile visual content to support storytelling efforts and help arrange permissions.
2. GIS & Mapping
- Collect and analyze satellite imagery to identify deforestation trends in coffee-producing regions.
- Develop GIS models to assess land cover changes and deforestation risks.
- Create maps, reports, and visualizations to communicate findings to internal teams and external partners.
- Support the integration of GIS insights into advocacy and sustainability initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills
Communications/Design/Film & Visual Storytelling:
- Background in film, design, multimedia storytelling, or a related field
- Experience with video editing software (such as Premiere Pro, Final Cut, DaVinci Resolve) and/or graphic design tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Figma, etc.).
- Strong understanding of visual storytelling and its role in advocacy.
- Ability to translate complex issues into engaging and accessible content.
2. GIS & Mapping:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Geography, GIS, Environmental Science, Remote Sensing, or a related field.
- Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS, QGIS, Google Earth Engine).
- Experience with remote sensing tools and satellite imagery analysis (Landsat, Sentinel, MODIS).
- Knowledge of land cover classification techniques and deforestation monitoring.
- Experience with scripting languages (Python, R, or Google Earth Engine API) is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
